Conduct Statements
For Students
University of Michigan students are required to comply with all program conduct policies, University of Michigan student conduct policies (including, but not limited to, the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities), the rules and regulations of the foreign host institution, and the laws of the host country while participating in a University-sponsored off-campus program. Students engaged in research are expected to comply with all applicable research policies, protocols and standards. In addition, students are expected to follow the direction of the Program Coordinator/Faculty to ensure a safe, healthy and productive educational experience for all participants. The Program Coordinator is the University of Michigan faculty or staff member who has overall responsibility for the management of the program. The Program Coordinator has the authority and responsibility to determine appropriate corrective action up to and including dismissal from an off-campus program, after consulting with the student, UM sponsoring unit(s) and the on-site lead. If dismissed:- Students must promptly leave the program site at their own expense.
- Students engaged in for-credit, off-campus programs may be withdrawn from the course and/or be assigned a failing grade.
- Students may face financial consequences for dismissal, as determined by the policies of the University and sponsoring academic unit.
- Failure to comply with a Program Coordinator’s directive may result in additional sanctions, up to and including academic holds, suspension or expulsion from the University.
- Students may appeal a dismissal decision upon returning to campus either through the conduct policies of the academic unit sponsoring the program or through the campus student conflict resolution office/judicial office.

For Staff
University of Michigan employees are required to comply with the University of Michigan Standard Practice Guide and all other University policies regarding professional conduct and business operations while engaged in off-campus University business. University of Michigan employees are also expected to comply with the rules and regulations of the foreign host institution and the laws of the host country while engaged in University business abroad. Employees engaged in research are expected to comply with all applicable research policies, protocols and standards. University employees who violate University performance, conduct, or research standards are subject to disciplinary action as outlined in SPG 201.12 or the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement.Resources:

University of Michigan faculty are required to comply with the University of Michigan Faculty Handbook while engaged in off-campus University business. University of Michigan faculty are also expected to comply with the rules and regulations of the foreign host institution and the laws of the host country while engaged in University business abroad.
