Faculty and Staff Leading Groups

For University of Michigan Faculty or Staff leading University-sponsored groups

University of Michigan faculty or staff leading University-sponsored groups are expected to comply with the University’s standard business standards and professional ethics while engaged in off-campus programs. As an example, the University’s policies prohibiting sexual or other discriminatory harassment and policies governing faculty or staff relationships with students must be complied with while engaged in off-campus programs.

In addition, faculty or staff leading University-sponsored groups of students on off-campus programs are expected to be familiar with all available University guidance and resources regarding off-campus travel, such as the information available at the Global Michigan Health and Safety section. Program leaders are also responsible for ensuring that basic standards for the well-being and safety of the student participants are met at all times, such as facilitating medical care when needed. Finally, program leaders are expected to notify the University of any problem that may arise that would negatively impact the health and safety of program participants, such as medical emergencies, criminal infractions, or serious behavioral problems.
